My motivation in the last years was to experience handball and the culture in other countries, to learn new things about handball and to support together with people on the spot. I had heard about PlayHandball during my studies when the idea came up to go abroad and gain more experience with handball. It was only realized after my master’s degree in the context of my handball world tour. Thanks to Corona, this “only” turned into a trip to Europe and Africa in the spirit of handball. From Norway, to Denmark via France and Spain to Portugal, I was able to get to know European handball better in about 14 months. Afterwards, my journey took me to Kenya and South Africa for PlayHandball for another 4 months. In the following I report about my insight of my experiences at PlayHandball in Kenya and South Africa. The trilateral, virtual youth coach exchange is a new international encounter format of PlayHandball, “Jugend-im-Ausland” and the Handball Association Schleswig-Holstein. Young handball players from Germany, South Africa and Kenya participate in virtual encounters in the context of developmental youth work.

PlayHandball part of the GloKnoCo School in Brussels

Sport for development and peace. From the 16th to the 20th of May 2022, we were part of the second part of the GloKnoCo School, this time held in Brussels. This is a project which is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The students from different universities were taught about sport for development and peace (SDP) by representatives of different NGOs and professors who are working in this field. The universities which took part are the University of Brighton, the Paderborn University, and the Palacký University Olomouc. Beside PlayHandball the NGOs INEX, FHPU and MSIS were represented. Our representatives were Moritz Rottmann and Vincent Albers who are both volunteers and currently living in Germany. In a short report they tell us about the programme and their experiences of the field trip to Brussels.

Lisza reports from her experiences as a volunteer in Cape Town

Mid-term seminar with our weltwaerts-volunteers

Half-way through the weltwaerts volunteer service – time to reflect, learn more, plan forward and have fun. We hosted a mid-term seminar for our volunteers in South Africa and Kenya from 8th to 12th April, in Kleinmond, Western Cape, South Africa.
