PLAY HANDBALL partnered with the “Go For Goals” Sports Centre to host an exciting two-day handball and education tournament on August 30 and 31, 2024, inspired by the spirit of the Play Handball SuperCup. The theme, “UMOJA NI NGUVU,” meaning “Stronger Together” in Swahili, resonated throughout the event.

At the end of August, 426 players from 17 teams—including primary and secondary schools, as well as senior teams—gathered for a thrilling competition at the open fields in Kongowe Mzinga, Temeke district. The tournament featured 8 primary school teams for players under 14, 5 secondary school teams for players under 17, and 4 senior teams, all from Dar Es Salaam.

In addition to the matches, we hosted seminars educating athletes on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of environmental conservation.

Moshi Ally Kassim, Co-Founder of “Go for Goals Sports Center,” expressed his enthusiasm: “We hope to see the Umoja ni Nguvu Handball Super Cup grow, involving even more youth teams from across Tanzania. It’s crucial, as few tournaments unite young people outside of school competitions.” He added, “A huge thank you to our partners at PLAY HANDBALL for their support in making this tournament a success.”

We are proud to have supported this tournament for the first time, providing advice and financial backing to empower “Go For Goals” in organizing this inclusive event. Beyond the Supercup, PLAY HANDBALL donated equipment to enhance training sessions in schools, and our volunteer Lina assisted with training and tournament planning from June to September. “Go for Goals” is committed to implementing sports initiatives that address local community needs, and we’re thrilled to help bring joy, education, and opportunities to young people in Tanzania through handball.

A special thanks to Lina and her club, HSG Hunsrück, in Germany for their significant contributions to the tournament fundraiser, as well as for the jerseys and equipment that Lina brought with her.
