Last weekend they met with the Play Handball director Nicola and project-coordinator Simphiwe to share their experiences so far.

Take action for the future – the 4th SuperCup in Cape Town inspires 150 kids to take action for climate change

PLAY HANDBALL ZA (PHZA) inspired over 150 children at the 4th SuperCup to be fair on the field and beyond. 15 school and community teams from Cape Town all the way to Piketberg and Franschhoek took part in this educational tournament. Mr M. Hansen the German Consul in Cape Town, Mr R. Larney from the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and Mr A. Pole the President of the South African Handball Federation (SAHF) honoured the tournament with their presence and an opening speech.

“It takes a little time to get used to the culture. But if you get involved, it’s a wonderful experience.” Hanna is volunteering for PLAY HANDBALL and Africa Jam in Cape Town for 2 months. Besides her work in primary schools, she also runs a handball program in the afternoon.

Friday-for-Future in Europe –Using Sport to raise awareness for Climate Change in Cape Town! The PLAY HANDBALL Supercup is unique in its kind and is the first Handball & Environmental Tournament Series in South Africa. The aim is to ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AMONG OUR YOUTH. Since 2016 Play Handball has reached over 1400 youth.

On Saturday, 30th of November 2019, from 9am-5pm, PLAY HANDBALL ZA is hosting the 4th Annual PLAY HANDBALL SuperCup in Cape Town.

Laura tells of her experiences as a volunteer in Cape Town

“The first few weeks were a great cultural challenge. Only little can be planned, because many things can always change quickly.”

Meet The Volunteer: Sophia experiences township life in Jo’burg

“I got to know South Africa from a completely different angle. Not from the tourist side. I became part of a community. A community that has given me a warm welcome and showed me what “Ubuntu” means.”

Sophia has been a volunteer at “PLAY HANDBALL ZA” in Daveyton, Johannesburg for two months. In Johannesburg North-East she experiences township life and helps at the Kgalema Primary School with Physical Education during Life Skill Classes and in afternoon programmes assist Sports Initiative Project at up to seven primary schools with the development of handball. “I am, You are, We are South Africa!” – Ubomi Children Camp July 2019

“I am, You are, We are South Africa!” That was the theme for the 1^st Ubomi Wintercamp sponsored by the Cape Times Fresh Air Camp. Over 100 disadvantaged youth from different communities of the environments of Cape Town experienced activities around Art, Dance, Nature & Handball over the weekend of 26^th to 28^th of July at the Campsite in Simon’s Town.

The Cape Times Fresh Air Camp celebrated its 100 years anniversary and, for this reason, invited the children of Ubomi children houses to celebrate with them. Over 100 children and 25 facilitators were invited to spend a weekend at their campsite in Simon’s Town. For the 1^st Winter Camp initiated by Ubomi, the organisation invited its partner organisation to come on board with children of their programmes and with activities to collaborate and co-create together a unique and memorable experience for the children. Daniel has been a volunteer at “PLAY HANDBALL ZA” in Cape Town, Lavender Hill, for one month. Handball is an universal language – Play Handball at Karookop Primary School

Play Handball was invited by Initiative for Community Advancement (ICA) to conduct a handball session with just under 100 youth at Karookop Primary School, outside Eendekuil, Western Cape on the 24th of February 2019.
