Anja Althaus: I’ve known Nico for many years, as a fellow player and later also as an opponent. We played together in the youth national team and in Trier I played with her sister, Kathrin Scholl. So I know the whole family very well and both of us were always the crazy chickens in the youth team. At some point our handball ways have been separated, but I have always followed what Nico did. After two successful annual events in 2016 & 2017, with over a thousand children reached from both Cape Town and Johannesburg, PLAY HANDBALL ZA (PHZA), in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), hosted the PLAY HANDBALL Supercup 2018 on the 20th of October 2018 at the Sinaba Sports Stadium, Daveyton, Gauteng. Karibu Kenya! PLAY HANDBALL Supercup the first time in Kenya to educate trainers and hence children around environmental friendly behaviour and how to deal with the waste situation.

We use Handball as a tool to create learning experiences for the youth around important socio-political topics such as environmental awareness. With its flagship project the PLAY HANDBALL Supercup going in its third year in South Africa, the model was replicated in Kenya, making it the first country outside South Africa to organise and host such an event. Play Handball Kenyan office organised this first environmental handball programme in partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany Embassy in Nairobi and Konrad Adenauer Foundation Kenya in Kisumu, Western Kenya on the 13th October, 2018. Around 30,000 euros: This is the amount that the joint donation campaign by Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Kim Ekdahl Du Rietz brought in. The former Leuven star, who moved to Paris St. Germain on 1 July 2018, had declared during his comeback in the jersey of the DHB Cup winner that he wanted to donate the three monthly salaries he would receive as a result of his return to good causes.
