Play Handball was invited by Initiative for Community Advancement (ICA) to conduct a handball session with just under 100 youth at Karookop Primary School, outside Eendekuil, Western Cape on the 24th of February 2019. The youth were introduced to handball basics, such as passing, throwing, dribbling, etc. There was also a recycling component to the day. (more…)

When and how did your relationship with Play Handball SA start?
I got to know Play Handball in 2017. We had a volunteer from Play Handball based at our community sport centre. In this year we went with our team as well to the Supercup in Cape Town. At the handball tournament we got lots of information about environmental awareness and as well learned new things about coaching. After he left, I took over as a coach and that where the relationship between me and Play Handball started. (more…)

Germany is co-organiser of the Handball World Championship in January. Two years later, in 2021, the World Championship will be hosted on the African continent. After 1999 in Egypt and 2005 in Tunisia, Egypt will host the World Cup for the second time.
The Play Handball Supercup series is still a long way from such a big tournament, but this year, there was a new pleasing development. In 2018, the tournament was played not only in South Africa but also for the first time in Kenya. The basic orientation has not changed. The Play Handball Supercup is and remains the first tournament series in Africa that combines sport with education and environmental protection. The motto is: More than handball! (more…)

Anja Althaus: I’ve known Nico for many years, as a fellow player and later also as an opponent. We played together in the youth national team and in Trier I played with her sister, Kathrin Scholl. So I know the whole family very well and both of us were always the crazy chickens in the youth team. At some point our handball ways have been separated, but I have always followed what Nico did. The Play Handball Supercup came to Daveyton’s Sinaba Stadium on October 20. It is the first handball and environmental tournament series in South Africa. Hosted by Play Handball ZA, teams competed in an u-14 mixed-team tournament as well as preformed various environmental tasks on the day.
