For the close of the weltwärts year of our volunteers, Play Handball Kenya and Angaza organised a Handball Supercup in Thika. 5 teams from Narok, Kisumu, Juja, Thika and Machakos attended. After a life skill session focusing on gender equality and environmental awareness, the teams were showing their handball skills in some very intense matches. The final match won the team from Empower Girls Plus in Kisumu against the team from Pendo Amani in Juja. Congratulations to all teams. It was very nice to see how well the teams developed over the last year while our volunteers Paul, Hendrik, Batoul, Sophia and Konrad supported with handball development in the programmes of our partner organisations: Pendo Amani in Juja, Angaza in Thika, Machakos by PlayHandball, EmpowerGirlsPlus in Kisumu and Ilkeeke Aere Primary School in Narok. One aim of Play Handball is to bring youth from different backgrounds together. With this tournament, which will be not the last of its kind, youth – girls and boys – from 5 different regions and three different tribes (Maasai, Kikuyu and Luo) met on the field, played handball and many of the players found new friends from different teams.
A big thanks to everyone – our partners, the coaches and volunteers and the players – for this day, especially Angaza who helped making the Supercup possible.
